However, if Liberal Democrats win again, there will still be a Jevons on Doncaster Council. The party's candidate is Malcolm's wife, Jill Arkley-Jevons. Jill has been active in the community for many years. She has worked on campaigns such as those to close the mental hospital, to get gas on Highwoods estate, to get Mexborough the first skateboard park in Doncaster and to keep our fire station open. Jill is also well known for her work with young people. She helped run a youth drop-in centre for five years and, as Millennium Volunteers co-ordinator for Dearne Valley, she has guided dozens of young people into voluntary activity suited to their interests. As a result, some of them have received national recognition. Their successes have included winning an award for best fund-raising event (beating the David Walliams channel swim) and gaining the Diana Memorial Award for Youth Achievement. Jill relishes the prospect of serving local people in a new way as an elected councillor while continuing her work with young people on a part-time basis.
