Cliff was born on the 17th April 1951 in Sale Cheshire and Educated at Sale Moor Secondary School. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1969 and served 14 years, before later becoming a civilian engineer at RAF Finningley and finally leaving to take redundancy in 1994. Since the closure of the base Cliff has run a taxi business in and around Intake, Doncaster and was the Chairman of Doncaster Taxi Association for two years.
Cliff lived in Intake for over 18 years before recently moving to near by Kirk Sandall and has been a member of Intake Social Club for over 10 years. Cliff knows many people in intake and is well respected by those who know him.
Joining the Liberal Party in 1978 he has been an active member of the Liberal Democrats for many years. Currently the Vice-Chairman of Doncaster Liberal Democrats he has stood on many occasions as a Liberal Democrat candidate for Doncaster Council and was also their parliamentary candidate for Doncaster Central in 1992. He was elected to Doncaster Council 2002 to serve the people of Intake Ward and re-elected in 2004 to the renamed Town Moor Ward. He has also had experience of being a parish councillor for 3 local Doncaster parishes, currently sitting on Barnby Dun with Kirk Sandall and Edenthorpe Parishes.
